Compare the Travel Kit for Nintendo Switch Lite and the Thin Case for Nintendo Switch to decide which protection fits your play style and travel needs.
Quick answer
Choose the Travel Kit for Nintendo Switch Lite if you want all-in-one protection and grip for on-the-go play. Choose the Thin Case for Nintendo Switch if you need a slim, dock-friendly shell that works with the original Switch.
Protection philosophy: full kit vs slim shell
The Travel Kit for Nintendo Switch Lite is built for gamers on the move. It packs a rigid, heavy-duty protective travel case, a grip, and maintenance essentials into one bundle. That means you get double-layer exterior defense and absolute screen protection without buying pieces separately.
The Thin Case for Nintendo Switch takes the opposite approach. It's an ultra-low-profile shell that guards against scratches, drops, and everyday wear while letting you play, dock, and detach Joy-Con controllers on the fly. It's not a travel case; it's armor that stays on your console.
If you own a Switch Lite, the Travel Kit is the more complete solution. If you own a standard Switch, the Thin Case is the practical everyday shell.
Fit and compatibility: know your console
The Travel Kit is engineered specifically for the Nintendo Switch Lite. It includes a case and grip that match the Lite's smaller body and integrated controls.
The Thin Case is designed for the original Nintendo Switch, not the Lite. It wraps the console and Joy-Con controllers, so it won't fit a Switch Lite. If you're shopping for a Lite, the Travel Kit is the compatible choice.
Also note: the Thin Case's product page includes a warning about fit. Check the listing details to confirm compatibility with your exact model before purchase.
Trade-offs to consider
- All-in-one vs single shell: The Travel Kit bundles case, grip, and screen protection. The Thin Case is only a shell. If you want a complete protection system, the Travel Kit wins. If you already have a grip and screen protector, the Thin Case alone may be enough.
- Compatibility with your console: The Travel Kit is made for Switch Lite. The Thin Case is made for the original Switch. Verify your model before buying. If you own a Switch Lite, the Thin Case won't fit; choose the Travel Kit.
- Portability vs everyday wear: The Travel Kit includes a travel case for carrying. The Thin Case is designed to stay on the console during play and docking. If you rarely travel, a slim shell might be more convenient; if you're often on the move, the Travel Kit's case is essential.
